Law – Civil Law

Civil law comprises the basic rules of human activity that are, in part, legislated in a civil code. Civil law is in force in Quebec and much of the non-English-speaking world. Upon completing this degree, you are admissible to Quebec’s École du Barreau or uOttawa’s notarial law master’s program (in French).

Translational and molecular medicine (TMM)

The Bachelor of Science with Honours in Translational and Molecular Medicine (TMM) is a unique collaborative effort between Faculty of Medicine researchers and affiliated institutes. The program integrates theoretical and practical courses with active learning, offering students an enriching educational environment and exposing them to innovative research throughout their studies. The TMM program emphasizes training in active research labs and offers the largest number of advanced laboratories for an undergraduate science program in Canada. Students are taught by both basic scientists and clinicians, providing them with the skill sets required to perform cutting-edge biomedical research. The program is offered in both French and English.

Undergraduate Medical Education

The University of Ottawa is the only medical school in North America that offers the MD Program in both official languages, English and French. Students select their language of study during the application process. On average, 170 students are enrolled each new academic year, comprised of roughly 122 in the Anglophone stream and 48 in the Francophone stream.

The application process and admissions process are the same for all categories of applicants.

Admission requirements: Prior to June, preceding registration, applicants must have completed a minimum of 3 years of full-time undergraduate studies at a recognized university in a program leading to a bachelor's degree, including the following prerequisites: 2 courses in humanities/social sciences, 2 courses in biology and 1 course in each of the following: General chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry and statistics.

Nursing - Post RPN

The Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing – Bridging Pathway is designed for Registered Practical Nurses with: A 2-year Ontario College Diploma (or the equivalent) in practical nursing, experience practicing as an RPN in Ontario within the last 5 years at full scope of practice for a minimum of 6 consecutive months full- or part-time OR have received their RPN license within the past calendar year and a College of Nurses of Ontario registration in good standing.

This compressed timeframe program allows for direct entry into Year 3 of the Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Ottawa after successful completion of 6 predetermined university courses. Students can upgrade their education from diploma prepared practical nurse to degree-prepared Registered Nurse in 6 terms (2.5 years).

Optometry

As the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, known as ophthalmic medicine, steadily grows in complexity, the demand for health care workers with specialized knowledge and skills in ophthalmic medical technology is growing as well. Ophthalmic medical technologists work with leading-edge equipment, including lasers and imaging systems, to provide quality patient care.

This bachelor's degree program provides students with a 2-year foundation in core sciences, followed by third- and fourth-year studies that specialize in ophthalmic medical technology and visual science. The academic training of students registered in the third and fourth years of the program takes place at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute, located on the general campus of the Ottawa Hospital. This program combines clinical, hands-on experience with theoretical training.

Pharmacy

Undergraduate Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

This program is designed to train students for future practice as pharmacists in community, hospital or a variety of other settings, or to pursue more advanced studies. Offered in French, the program is aimed primarily at francophone Ontarians and secondarily at francophone students from elsewhere in Canada, with the objective of meeting the needs of bilingual pharmacists in minority settings. The 4-year program consists of courses, practical labs and 40 weeks of practical training. All courses are based on an active learning approach.
